How do I qualify for reinstatement?
You are eligible to apply for reinstatement by submitting an application
for reinstatement within two years of your last day of work. You
must have achieved permanent status and left the Department in good standing.
How do I apply?
You can apply by filling out an
[application for employment] and submitting
it to your local recruitment office or the Phoenix recruitment office.
How long does the reinstatement process take?
Much of the time factor depends on your availability to participate in each step of the process.
The reinstatement process will generally take 1-3 weeks.
What will my salary be?
If you are eligible for reinstatement, you are eligible to receive your
former permanent status base salary.
There is an
additional geographical stipend of 10% and $100.00 per pay period for
Florence and Lewis complexes and $2600 annually for Winslow Complex and
Apache. Receipt of these additional payments is
determined by your job assignment upon return. If you were
in a position other than a Correctional Officer II when you
left the Department, your salary will be set in accordance with
the personnel rules.

Will I receive a uniform allowance before I start work?
Uniform allowance will be included into your pay, the second pay period of the month.
Do I have to go to the Correctional Officer Training Academy (COTA) for nine weeks of training?
If you qualify as a reinstatement you will not have to attend COTA.
Will my years of experience count toward my pay?
If you have obtained additional correctional experience, you may submit
the appropriate paperwork to apply the credited experience to your pay.
What status will I have when I return to work?
You will be placed back on Original Probation for 1 year.
I have to retake my medical/physical exam again?
Yes, currently this is part of POST requirements.
