Correctional Public Health Program
The mission of the Correctional Public Health Program of the Health Services Division, Arizona Department of Corrections, is to reduce the incidence and spread of communicable diseases and make the prison system a healthy working environment.
Inmates suffer disproportionately from communicable diseases such as Tuberculosis, HIV and sexually transmitted diseases. In the prison environment, we have the ability to address diseases that can become a public concern or threat once the inmate is released back into the community.
Through public health programs within our prison system, we may be able to reduce the spread of disease. The following are some public health measures that are present or are in the process of being developed within our program:
  • Screening and Detection

  • Health Education

  • Disease Surveillance

  • Quality Assurance

  • Transition of inmates back into the community.
