Professional Resources Program

The Professional Resource Program is responsible for promoting success through professional growth. This area manages:

National Health Care Accreditation

Publications/Research
Health Education
Staff Training

It also provides technical assistance to health care staff in the above areas.

Correctional Health Care Accreditation is a three-year strategic plan to achieve full accreditation by the National Commission on Correctional Health Care for all complexes and facilities in the Arizona Department of Corrections.

Publications/Research area offers technical assistance on projects, including help with research design, proposal writing and locating appropriate venues for presentations and publications. It coordinates the internal approval process for publication dissemination, and encourages staff to share their expertise.

Health Education is a program that is essential in a correctional environment to enhance prevention among inmates, reduce health care costs, and improve outcomes.

The Arizona Department of Corrections began a Health Education program in 1995. The Health Education program specializes in the development, implementation and evaluation of education curriculums, interventions, and materials such as the Inmate Information Sheets (IIS), a series of health education handouts specifically developed to address special educational needs of inmates.

Staff Training facilitates professional training, seminars and educational resources available in the health care field. The Professional Resources area publishes a quarterly Health Services Newsletter which shares pertinent information, acknowledges staff achievements, and keeps them up-to-date on professional training opportunities.
