ARIZONA DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS
Health Care

Pharmacy Services

The mission of Pharmacy Services in the Arizona Department of Corrections is to provide quality pharmacy care and services to the incarcerated inmate population of the State. The Department of Corrections offers pharmacists and pharmacy technicians an interesting and professional career. Opportunities exist to exercise professional skills, knowledge, and judgment while providing pharmaceutical care. A pharmacy career is challenging and free from many of the pressures found in retail practice. Arizona Department of Corrections’ pharmacies are located at prison complex facilities throughout the state.

In addition to a professional modern environment, the Department can offer pharmacy staff a flexible work schedule. Normally, pharmacy staff do not work evenings, weekends, or holidays, enabling them pursue other interests or just have more quality time with family and friends. The Department offers a comprehensive
benefits package, including paid malpractice insurance, vacations, holidays, sick days, and long term disability pay. Plus, Pharmacists receive an annual stipend to supplement their salary. Pharmacists applying for employment must possess a current unrestricted State of Arizona Pharmacist License.

The Arizona Department of Corrections Pharmacy Program orders pharmaceuticals, maintains inventories, and fills prescriptions. The Pharmacy system services approximately 21,000 offenders in ten institutions statewide. The Pharmacy Program fills over 61,000 prescriptions a month.
