ARIZONA’S NATIONAL DAY OF REMEMBRANCE 

As part of the 7th Annual National Day of Remembrance, the Arizona Department of Corrections and Governor Janet Napolitano will remember murder victims and their families with a flag raising ceremony.  

ADC Director Dora Schriro who will be a keynote speaker at the ceremony. Under Schriro, the Arizona Department of Corrections has initiated a program that offers a variety of services to the victims of crime. Her Restorative Justice Program calls for making inmates more responsible for their criminal conduct and being sensitive to the needs of crime victims. 

Dennis Burke, Governor Napolitano’s chief of staff, will present awards, made by ADC inmates, to homicide investigators and prosecutors. Also participating in the event will be family members of murder victims, sharing their stories and unique perspectives with those in attendance.  

The National Day of Remembrance is officially celebrated the September 25; however, Arizona’s ceremony will be held at 8:30 a.m., Friday, September 23 on the west side of the Governor’s Executive Tower at 1700 W. Washington.
