GOVERNOR SIGNS EXECUTIVE ORDER ON WATER REDUCTION
Requires state agencies to cut back usage by 5%
(November 5, 2004) - PHOENIX - As part of her water plan for Arizona, Gov. Janet Napolitano today signed Executive Order 2004 - 28, requiring state agencies to find ways to reduce their consumption of water by 5%. The Governor this week outlined her plan at the Arizona Town Hall, which includes establishing a "culture of conservation" across the state, and mandating that state government also conserve this precious resource.
The order requires each agency to cut back usage based on FY 2004 levels. It also requires them to appoint a Water Efficiency coordinator to determine ways to reduce water consumption, monitor savings, educate employees on how to keep usage to a minimum, and troubleshoot problems that may contribute to excess water use. Additionally, agencies that fall within the Governor's Office executive branch will be required to adhere to strict conservation measures regarding landscaping and restrooms.
First reports on water cutback measures will be due to the Governor by June of 2005.
