Bachman Unit holds Fundraiser for St. Vincent de Paul
Inmates at ASPC-Lewis, Bachman Unit, unable to go Christmas shopping were offered a way this year to surprise their children with holiday gifts. Children's gift items and holiday stockings were donated by local retailers. The stockings were then sold to inmates for $5.00 each. Inmates who purchased these stockings were allowed to give them as gifts to their children during Christmas weekend visitation. "This event was a very positive opportunity for our inmates to interact with their children in a way they never had before," Captain Randy Kaufman said. The event is an example Director Schriro's reentry strategy which focuses on inmate accountability to their families and community.
Participating retailers included Fry's and Basha's Groceries, Walmart, and Back Alley Discounts. The event raised approximately $150.00, which was donated to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Dining Halls. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul has been serving homeless and economically disadvantaged populations in the Phoenix area since 1946. Congratulations to our Bachman Unit employees for holding this successful event! |
