The Arizona Department of Corrections readied Arizona school children for the upcoming school year by contributing generously to Governor Janet Napolitano’s Pack to School campaign.
ADC staff from every complex and its central office plus inmates department wide donated backpacks, notebooks, pens, pencils and other necessary school supplies to ensure Arizona’s students get off to great start this school year.
ADC employees contributed more than 40,575 items and corrections staff and inmates raised nearly $15,500 more in cash donations.
“Successful schools are Arizona’s best crime prevention program,” ADC Director Dora Schriro said. “Following our staff’s excellent example, the inmates really stepped up this year and, despite limited resources, donated generously to students, ensuring they get the tools they need to learn and achieve.”
This is the fourth year ADC has participated in the program and each year the department has been the largest government supporter in Arizona. This year, ADC has increased its support even more!
“We are pleased with all that the Arizona Department of Corrections has done to support this wonderful program,” Salvation Army Southwest Divisional Commander Lt. Colonel Don Mowery said. “Thanks to its increased support, I am confident we will meet and even exceed our goal of providing backpacks and supplies to 7,500 children across Arizona.”
Please join the Department of Corrections and Salvation Army at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, August 2 at the Salvation Army warehouse (2702 E. Washington, north side of the building) as ADC delivers its collection of school supplies and to see the vast impact their support will give to Arizona’s youth.
