Florence’s Unique Fundraiser Helps Fellow Officer

Correctional Officer Eric Brandner of Arizona State Prison Complex-Florence had no idea that ‘Dine for Time’ would turn into such a success.

His idea was simple: a fundraising party where the price of admission and food are paid with annual leave donations for Correctional Officer II Steven Jackson. Jackson, the North Unit Fire Crew Supervisor, was severely injured in an accident in June. Due to the extent of his injuries, Jackson needed enough annual leave to get him through three pay periods.

“Our goal was to accumulate 320 hours,” said Florence Lieutenant John Lorka. “By the time the dust settled and all of the donation slips were added up, 104 staff members throughout Florence Complex donated over 1,000 hours.”

The largest annual leave contribution came from Florence Correctional Officer II Alex DiSanti who donated 160 hours to Officer Jackson.

Florence staff members: James Hodgin, Luis Flores, Oscar Ochoa, Deborah Trujillo, Ricky Pratt, Michelle Rose, Jaime Llamas, Paul Aguero and David Andazola all donated supplies, time and effort to the September 2 fundraiser. The L&B Restaurant in Florence donated some items for the event as well.

In July, Cell Block Six staff hosted a fundraiser for Officer Jackson that raised a significant amount of money that was directly deposited into a bank account established for Jackson and his family.

“On behalf of CB-6 staff, we would like to thank all staff from the Florence and Eyman complexes that participated and donated their hard earned time,” said Lorka.
