ADC Begins Criminal Alien Removal Training

On September 20, Arizona Department of Corrections Director Dora Schriro attended the first-ever ADC criminal alien training session, designed to teach staff how to prepare immigration paperwork and perform other U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement functions.

ADC selected 12 employees to participate in the five-week training course.

Upon completion of the training program, ADC employees will receive official certification from ICE. The training course will cover a wide range of topics related to immigration enforcement, including immigration law, civil rights and intercultural relations.

Once ADC employees are trained, ICE special agents will supervise them.

ADC is the only state corrections department nationwide to take part in this project.

Governor Janet Napolitano's state Summit on Illegal immigration was the catalyst for talks between ADC and ICE. The discussions eventually led to the memorandum of understanding that paved the way for ADC employees to be trained to assist in the deportation process.
