Douglas Macfarlane to Head Support Services

Arizona Department of Corrections Director Dora Schriro is pleased to announce the appointment of Douglas Macfarlane as Division Director of Support Services.

Division Director Macfarlane earned a master and doctoral degree from North Carolina State University and graduated from the U.S. Military Academy and Naval War College.

 For more then 35 years Macfarlane distinguished himself in the public and private sector, serving 25 years in the U.S. Army reaching the rank of Colonel, and then ten years in administration, in industry and county government. Most recently he oversaw a Training and Development Division for Maricopa County.

 Mr. Macfarlane is considered an expert in the areas of leadership development, assessment, training, strategic planning and systems reform.

Director Macfarlane and his wife, Marjorie, have been married for 37 years. They have two children Sara, age 25 and Scott, 23.

The Support Services Division is comprised of six Bureaus, which provide support services to the Operational and Program functions within the Arizona Department of Corrections.  Support Services is responsible for Human Services, Training & Development, Administrative Services, Inspector General, Planning, Budget and Research (PBR) and Information Technology.

Macfarlane replaces Mike Smarik who is retiring after 25 years of service for the State of Arizona, the last 19 years with ADC.
