The Arizona Department of Corrections really comes through for underprivileged kids.

The agency's employees are helping disadvantaged school children prepare for the upcoming school year.

ADC staff contributed generously to Governor Janet Napolitano’s Pack to School campaign. Staff at every complex and central office plus inmates donated backpacks, notebooks, pens, pencils and other school supplies ensuring Arizona’s students got off to great start this school year. Employees contributed enough items to fill a Department of Corrections bus. Also, ADC raised more than $20,000 in donations for this upcoming school year.

Representatives from the three divisions boarded the bus – ordinarily used to transport inmates - this morning and headed to the state’s Executive Tower. Our donations were piled high along side the podium where Governor Napolitano thanked state employees for their generosity. Department staff literally helped the Governor pack the bus with our boxes and bags of donations.

“Our staff is the best!” said Director Dora Schriro. “The Arizona Department of Corrections contributed the neatest school supplies, and contributed the most school supplies, of any agency in state government. Programs Services’ did an exemplary job responding to the Governor’s request for our help to make sure children around the state go back to school ready to learn. Your leadership is outstanding. You are corrections professionals.”
