Correctional Officer Awarded the Purple Heart
Arizona State Prison Complex-Lewis Correctional Officer Jose J. Alatorre, who served as a staff sergeant for the 3666 Maintenance Company, was awarded a purple heart for his service in Iraq. Alatorre was part of a vehicle recovery mission that was victimized by a roadside bomb. In the blast, Alatorre sustained injuries to his legs, the right side of his body, face and hands. Altorre is still on active duty and is continuing treatment at the Medical Hold Company in Fort Bliss, Texas. The Purple Heart is awarded to members of the U.S. armed forces who are wounded by an instrument of war in the hands of the enemy and posthumously to the next of kin in the name of those who are killed in action or die of wounds received in action. ADC would also like to recognize other ADC employees who have put their life on the line and received the Purple Heart: Correctional Officers Josue Salas and Doyle Clark and Correctional Sergeant Tony Jackson. Also, congratulations to Correctional Officer David Truax of ASPC-Yuma who earned a Bronze Star while serving in Iraq. The Bronze Star is awarded to individuals who, while serving in any capacity with the Armed Forces of the United States in a combat theater, distinguish themselves by heroism, outstanding achievement, or by meritorious service not involving aerial flight. |
