How to Make a Good First Impression

1. Smiling - If you’re feeling warm, playful or excited, it shows. People will automatically be attracted to you.

2. Standing or sitting at least three feet away. Sitting any closer will make a person feel closed in. You’re invading the other person’s "comfort zone."

3. Being a copycat. If the person you’re talking to crosses their legs you do the same. It’s called "synchronizing" You increase rapport.

4. Staying in the Box - Hand gestures signal enthusiasm, but don’t overdo them. Imagine a box going from your chin to your waist and from shoulder to shoulder. Keep your gestures within that box. 5. Knowing the six magic words: Who, What When, Where, Why & How. Asking questions that begin with one of these words will encourage other people to open up and talk.

6. Giving the compliment no one can resist. Repeat back something the other person has said. Preface the statement with"as you put it so well." It shows you are really paying attention.
