In an effort to appropriately staff the Arizona State Prison
Complex (ASPC)-Lewis, ASPC-Florence and ASPC-Eyman, I am authorizing
Correctional Officers (COs) II hired on or after the effective date of this
Director<'s
Instruction to receive a $5,160 Recruitment Bonus payable when they begin their
assignment at one of the affected prison complexes. This recruitment bonus will
be offered to employees on a one-time only basis, or payable at $100 per pay
period until the total sum of the bonus is exhausted.
This bonus is conditional upon the employee remaining at one
of the affected prison complexes for two years. If the employee leaves state
service, moves to a non-affected complex for any reason or moves within the
affected complexes to a non-qualifying classification, they must reimburse the
State on a pro-rata basis. Under the circumstances listed above, if the employee
has elected to receive their bonus at $100 per pay period, the bonus will
immediately be discontinued.
Continuation of the program is contingent upon future funding
and approval, and it may be discontinued at any time. This program may also be
discontinued when the operational vacancy rate at any one of the affected prison
complexes reaches an acceptable level.
The Financial Services Bureau and the Personnel Services
Bureau will be responsible for tracking employees who have been awarded a
Recruitment Bonus, and they will provide the Research Unit with information
needed to evaluate the success of the program.
All eligible COs II will complete the Recruitment Bonus form
(attachment).
