SUBJECT:
Director's Instruction # 215, Retention Stipend for Correctional Officers III, Correctional Officers IV and Captains at ASPC-Lewis, Eyman and Florence

Director's Instruction #209 authorizes Correctional Officers (COs) II, Sergeants and Lieutenants at Arizona State Prison Complexes (ASPC)-Lewis, Eyman and Florence to receive a retention stipend of $100 per pay period. The Department recognizes that COs III, IV and Captains at these three complexes occasionally work a security post, as the result of the shortage of COs II. In order to compensate these employees, effective April 12, 2003, COs III, IV and Captains at these three complexes will receive a stipend of $1.25 per hour for each hour worked on a security post normally staffed by a CO II.

CO IV's and Captains shall not work more than 8 hours at a security post in any 40-hour workweek period. Additionally, they shall not be scheduled or authorized to work more than 8 hours at a security post in any 40-hour workweek period.

In order to receive this stipend, the employee must record on the Positive Attendance Report (PAR) time worked filling a security post using the following codes:

Regular hours worked filling a security post RB

Extra hours worked filling a security post EB

Overtime hours worked filling a security post OB

Entries of RB, EB and OB must be approved by the employee's supervisor.

Continuation of this program is contingent upon future funding and approval, and may be discontinued at any time. The program may also be discontinued when operational vacancies at the affected complexes reach acceptable levels.
