Planning, Budget & Research Bureau
The Planning, Budget and Research is responsible for the
Department's budget control and development,
position control, bed planning, research and grants management. The Bureau also serves as the liaison to the Governor's
Office of Strategic Planning and Budgeting (GOSPB), Joint
Legislative Budget Committee (JLBC), the legislature and
other public and private entities in regard to these issues.|
Budget Control/DevelopmentBudget Control/Development staff develop and present the Department's annual budget request, in accordance with the Governor's instructions. They work with the GOSPB, JLBC, and other public and private sector entities regarding budget-related issues. Staff analyze and allocate annual appropriations to comply with Legislative intent, work with groups/divisions to analyze and project funding requirements, and prepare monthly financial status reports.

ResearchResearch staff are responsible for gathering, analyzing, organizing, and compiling data used for responding to information requests and generating reports. Reports are prepared for the Director and executive staff, the Governor's Office and the legislature. The Unit also responds to requests from Federal agenceies inlcuding the Department of Justice, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Department of Homeland Security. Offender population, prison capacity, recidivism, and other data are analyzed and trended for inclusion in surveys, ad hoc reports, strategic plans, and other major research projects.

Grants ManagementGrants Management staff are responsible for the coordination of the Department's grant program. This unit identifies the availability of funding opportunities for the Department, assembles the appropriate data and assists with the development of proposals in the pre-award phase, and monitoring of grant awards in the post-award phase. The Unit also acts as the liaison between the Department and governmental granting agencies.
