Hiring Process and Documents

  • The first thing you will need to do is to apply. Applications may be obtained through this web site, you can apply on-line, or you can call one of our recruiters and set an appointment  to come in for testing.
  • Test day begins with fingerprinting, completing basic paperwork and taking a 60 question Correctional Officers entrance exam and oral interview. Once you pass the Correctional Officers exam and interview, you will then be made a Conditional Job Offer, and complete other forms. You should expect to be at our testing center 2-3 hours.
  • Before you leave the testing center, you will be given a background questionnaire. You will take this questionnaire home and return upon completion along with all required documents. Upon returning your completed background questionnaire, and required documents, you will be given a health assessment form, and an instructional letter for preparation of the Fit-Pro testing. This instructional letter will give you the requirements needed to pass the Fit-Pro testing, and directions to follow for scheduling.
  • Schedule your physical agility testing. Please note, if you are unable to keep your appointment for the Fit-pro testing, you are to notify your recruiter immediately, failure to do so could result in being disqualified for one year. Upon passing your physical agility testing, your background packet will be forwarded to our Background Investigations Unit for further processing.
  • Once you have cleared background investigations, the next step is your medical/physical. Medical/physicals are generally scheduled at a pace of  2-3 people per week, so it may be quite some time before you are called, your patience is appreciated. Someone from RUSH  will call you to be scheduled for your medical/physical.
  • After passing your medical/physical, someone from RUSH will call you to schedule you for an appointment to come in and take your psychological exam.  Psychological exams are sent out a couple of times per week. Upon receipt by the psychologists office, psychological exams are scored, and we generally will have results within 24 hrs.
  • The final step in the process is your pre-employment drug screening. Once you clear your drug screening you are placed into a hiring pool with other applicants for the prison you chosen, and as soon as we have an opening at that prison, we will make you a final job offer and arrange for your academy start date at COTA(Correctional Officer Training Academy).

* Any existing testing component can be modified and components can be added at any time.
