Correctional Officers become Holiday Helpers

 'Shop with a Cop' gives 211 children a very Merry Christmas

Over 200 Valley children were all smiles as corrections and police officers teamed with Santa, greeted them at the regions 5^th annual ‘Shop with a Cop’ event.

The Arizona Department of Corrections was one of several agencies to participate.  The Police Officers of Scottsdale Association (POSA) sponsored the event, which began at dawn on December 15 at the Scottsdale Community College.  The children were treated to a hearty breakfast and given a chance to meet the men and women of the law enforcement community taking them on a $200 each shopping spree, generously donated by Scottsdale residents and business owners.

The Arizona Department of Corrections had a dozen Santa’s helpers on hand including Captain Graham Buffton, ASPC-Perryville, and Sgt. Tracy Hubbartt, CO II Dennis Nasta, COII Maggie Sammons, CO II Lisa Barry, CO II Lisa Villa, CO II Duwayne Klocko, and CO II Betsy Crown, all from ASPC-Tucson.   Jeff Sanders, Rebecca Fleis and Kimberly Pena ably represented Community Corrections and ADC Labor Liaison Robert Nutter also volunteered his time.  Vincent Buffton, the son of Captain Buffton, came along to help translate teen jargon for his dad and the other officers.   Sgt. Hubbart spearheaded the ADC’s involvement in POSA’s holiday program.
