ADC Helps Habitat for Humanity Build Better Communities

Yuma, Ariz. – Through a simple act of recycling an empty soda can or water bottle, a new house is closer to becoming a ‘dream’ home.  ADC staff and inmates are collecting aluminum cans and plastic bottles at ASPC-Yuma to help purchase materials needed by Habitat for Humanity of Yuma, Inc. to continue their mission of building new homes.

ASPC-Yuma Warden Jerry Sternes and Marilyn Young, President of the Board of Habitat for Humanity of Yuma, Inc. will officiate the ceremony for the partnership towards helping families realize the dream of home ownership.

Staff and inmates began depositing the recyclables into several containers throughout the prison complex this past October.  The prison complex has 4 large containers built in the shape of a house and more than 50 smaller containers that will be collected twice a month.  The collection of these materials has already raised nearly $300.  Profits from recycling the bottles and cans will go to continue the Habitat for Humanity of Yuma mission.

Habitat for Humanity of Yuma has built 12 homes in the Yuma area since 1996, and is currently on schedule to complete two more homes in March of this year.
