The Arizona Department of Corrections Celebrates the Outstanding Contributions by Women within the Department
Phoenix, Ariz.- The Arizona Department of Corrections will celebrate the many contributions the women serving in the department make as part of the National Women’s History Month. Awards will be presented by ADC Director Dora Schriro to a number of female employees for their excellence in public service.
Featured speakers for this event include Chief of Criminal Investigations Penny Gillette of the Arizona Department of Public Safety; Patricia Elder, Director for the Susan G. Komen Foundation Phoenix affiliate; and Mignon Gould, fashion writer and stylist with the Arizona Republic Newspaper. Terry Gilberg, talk show host for AM550-KFYI, will emcee the ceremony. Each will talk about the personal inspirations and experiences that helped them become successful women in the community.
This year’s theme is Women’s Art: Women’s Vision, it is an opportunity for all Arizonans to honor the originality, beauty, imagination, and multiple dimensions of women’s lives.
Today, 36 percent of the Department’s workforce is made up of women. They serve in key positions at each of the state’s 10 prisons, as community corrections officers, and as investigators, recruiters, and at all levels in the administration.
