Inmate built playhouse raises money for 100 Club of Arizona

May 8, 2008

A playhouse constructed by Arizona Department of Corrections inmates raised $700 for the 100 Club of Arizona.  The playhouse was donated for a silent auction, which was won by Gila County Sheriff John Armer, who won it for his grandchildren.  According to the 100 Club of Arizona, the silent auction raised around $15,000.

CO IV Cathy Cottrel, of ASPC-Florence/South Unit learned about the fundraiser for the 100 Club and suggested the idea to inmates, who donated the money to build and furnish the playhouse.  Lt. Chet Fulton, CO II Dave Coffey, CO II Thomas Carberry and Work Based Education Administrator Brad Ellsworth and Instructors William Gibeau and David Lucas directed construction of the playhouse.  ADW Yolanda Elliot, along with Phillip Elliot with the Arizona State Land Department, Forestry Division, delivered the playhouse to the Arizona Grand Resort, where the silent auction was held and the next day, the ASPC-Florence Wildland Fire Crew, directed by Wildland Fire Crew Supervisor Sgt. Shawn Rider and CO II Daniel Eaton delivered and set up the playhouse.
