ADC K-9 GRADUATION
May 8, 2008
The Arizona
Department of Corrections continues to fulfill its commitment to
sustaining public safety now, and later. In December, Service Dog
Academy Class 26-58 graduated 15 service dogs and their handlers,
including 11 ADC teams, from the nationally accredited training
course at the Correctional Officers Training Academy in Tucson.
Twice yearly, COTA hosts a nine-week K-9 academy, training dual
purpose canines (drug detection and handler protection) and Officer
Handlers for the ADC, Sheriff and Police agencies from all over
Arizona. ADC Service Dog program administrator Roger Pendergast,
ASPC-Tucson Warden Greg Fizer, Senior Dog Handler/Trainer Kenny
Vance and Senior Dog Handler/Trainer Lt. Steven Lowe presented
graduation certificates to the officers and their new partners.
