Special Management Unit at ASPC-Eyman Dedicated To Memory of COII Charles Browning A Staff Sergeant in the Arizona National Guard who Died in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan
Phoenix, Ariz. – One year ago on June 1, 2007, Correctional Officer Charles Browning, an exemplary employee of the Arizona Department of Corrections for nearly 4 years and a member of the United States military for 12 years, was killed in Afghanistan when an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) exploded near his military vehicle.
The Arizona Department of Corrections will be renaming the Special Management Unit II (SMU II) at ASPC-Eyman as the Browning Unit. Browning worked at SMU II before his deployment with the Arizona Army National Guard Bravo Company 1-158th Infantry Battalion.
Officer Browning joined the Department on January 12, 2004 and served with distinction at ASPC-Eyman in the City of Florence throughout his career.
