ADC Honors Military Staff

Phoenix, Ariz.- The Arizona Department of Corrections will hold its fifth annual  ceremony on June 19 honoring its staff who also serve in the armed forces.

The event coincides annually with Flag Day, and celebrates the contributions of ADC employees on active duty and those who have served recently and returned to state correctional service. The department will also acknowledge the families of ADC staff serving our country.

“We are extremely proud of our staff’s exceptional service to our country and our state,” ADC Director Schriro said. “Flag Day is a special opportunity for us to recognize their extraordinary efforts to secure our safety and to support their families while they are deployed."

Special guest speakers at the Flag Day event will include Department Director Dora Schriro, Arizona Representative John Kavanagh, Arizona Representative Ben Miranda, Major General David Rataczak, Director of Veterans’ Services Richard Gregg Maxon and ADC Military Support Coordinator James Gierke.

The department employs 2,337 veterans, 25 percent of its workforce, including 454 Vietnam era veterans and 78 Gulf War veterans.  Some 95 ADC employees are currently serving on active duty; another 75 are on standby.
