ADC leads Pack to School donations … again!

August 25, 2008

Once again, the Arizona Department of Corrections lead all other state agencies in collecting school supplies for Governor Janet Napolitano’s annual “Pack to School” fundraiser campaign.

Some of the donated supplies were delivered to the Salvation Army in Phoenix on August 5, where Heather Price, the ADC Pack To School liaison, was interviewed by a local TV news station.

On August 22, ADC Director Dora Schriro, Program Services Director Cree Zischke and Heather Price joined Governor Napolitano to give the first school supplies to second and third graders attending Granada Primary School in Phoenix.

Since the Arizona Department of Corrections began participating in the Pack to School campaign in 2003, our staff and the inmate population have consistently donated more school supplies and money than any other state agency.   As was the case in each prior year, this year ADC set a new standard for donating 69,052 items, including 1,513 backpacks, 11,240 pens and pencils, 19,109 notebooks and thousand of other school supplies.

ADC staff and inmates also donated $46,678.42 in cash including over $11,000 that was given directly to the Salvation Army to distribute additional school supplies around the state.

Heartfelt thanks and congratulations for a job exceptionally well-done go out to everyone at ADC who worked hard and gave generously to provide school supplies to so many children in our state.  You provide leadership upon which our state proudly counts.
