Tucson Fire Truck Pull

May 19, 2010

What do you get when you have a 15 ton fire truck, 40 feet of thee inch diameter rope, 75 feet of open road and nearly 50 ADC men and women?  An opportunity to raise money for the Law Enforcement Torch Run.

On April 22, ASPC-Tucson hosted a Fire Truck Pull for the LETR.  Five teams, four from Tucson and one from ASPC-Eyman, came together to see how fast they could pull a 30,000 pound Fire truck over 75 feet of Road.  The teams were made up of men and women from Rincon Unit Swing Shift, Minors Unit, Eyman TSU, Santa Rita Unit and Rincon Day Shift.

Even though it was officially spring in Arizona, the weather refused to cooperate, so a number of the pulls were done in a chilling rain.  Despite the temperature falling into the low 40s, the five teams showed indomitable spirit and all completed the 75 pull, but only one team could win and that was the Santa Rita team, who pulled their truck across the line just about two seconds faster than anyone else.

The coordinators of the event, AS I Schlotterer, CO III Brookhard, CO II Hause, AA III Hallahan and ASI Gillen want to thank Tucson Fire Captains Ray Dashiell and Martin Green for volunteering their time and their fire truck to a worthy cause.
