11th Annual Northern Arizona Poker Run
May 27, 2010
On May 15, ASPC-Winslow hosted the 11th Annual Northern Arizona Poker Run to benefit the Law Enforcement Torch Run and Special Olympics Arizona. The 133-mile round trip route began at Cruisers Restaurant in Williams. Participants drove a route that included stops at Grand Canyon Harley Davidson, Mormon Lake Lodge, Flagstaff Hot Bike and Baskin Robbins in Flagstaff before returning to Williams, where the participants were invited to walk around the shops in downtown Williams to finalize the route. At the start of the event, participants were given five poker cards and could pick up additional cards along the route to try and improve their hand. At the end of the day, prizes were awarded for the best and worst hands. There were door prizes that were also given out in a raffle. Deputy Warden Heather Pruett, ASPC-Winslow/Kaibab coordinated the event and says the run had 62 participants, plus about 10 volunteers that assisted in the event. She believes there was significant participation from ADC staff and estimates that more than $3,300 was raised for the LETR.
