25th Annual Law Enforcement Torch Run

ASPC-Winslow participated in the 25th Annual Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) on April 25. Over 75 staff and family members participated in the event, which included a two mile walk, a 10 mile run and a 35 mile bike ride. ASPC-Winslow raised approximately $18,000 through the LETR, t-shirt sales, the BBQ, the 12th Annual Northern Arizona Poker Run and sponsorships. A total of 18 ASPC-Yuma staff participated in their Law Enforcement Torch Run by running or riding a bike a total of 10 miles. To date, ASPC-Yuma has raised nearly $8,000 for Special Olympics Arizona. Just over a dozen ASPC-Tucson staff participated in their LETR event. Through LETR, "Cop-on-Top," "Tip-a-Cop" and other fundraisers, ASPC-Tucson is estimated to have raised around $10,000 for Special Olympics Arizona. The LETR in Safford consisted of a 10.9 mile run from the Safford complex to Firth Park. About 25 ASPC-Safford staff ran, walked and even rode horses in the event, which took place on April 26. So far, through inmate fundraisers, softball tournaments and community donations, Safford has raised over $26,000 for Special Olympics. Approximately 20 staff from ASPC-Perryville participated in their 4.5 mile LETR. Through staff donations and Inmate fundraisers, ASPC-Perryville provided over $1,230 for Special Olympics Arizona. Eight officers from ASPC-Phoenix, accompanied by two of the officer’s children, helped carry the torch during Phoenix’s leg of the LETR, raising over $120 for Special Olympics. Several ASPC-Lewis staff members participated in their 6.5 mile LETR. Lewis raised over $11,000 for Special Olympics Arizona through staff donations and inmate fundraisers. Over 30 men and women participated in the Eyman/Florence LETR, including 13 water station/check points decorated this year in a tropical theme and set up by the different units from both prisons. For FY 2011, ASPC-Eyman and ASPC-Florence raised over $55,000 for the Special Olympics Arizona though events like "Tip A Cop," "Cop on Top," LETR and inmate fundraisers. ASPC-Douglas staff, including 12 walkers, three runners, two bicyclists and 10 volunteers, participated in their LETR event. So far this year, ASPC-Douglas raised over $3,800 for Special Olympics Arizona.
