Centennial Cactus Dedication Ceremony

January 10, 2012

Gov. Janice K. Brewer unveiled a decades-old saguaro cactus at the Wesley Bolin Memorial Plaza on January 5 and declared it Arizona's "Centennial Saguaro."

The nearly 21 foot tall saguaro is part of a larger effort to beautify the Capitol Mall to prepare for the state's celebration of Arizona turning 100 years old on February 14.

The Arizona Department of Corrections was recognized for providing the inmate labor that helped with the landscape renovations around the state capitol.

On January 5, Gov. Brewer dedicated Arizona's "Centennial Saguaro" and thanked everyone who helped in preparing the Capitol Mall for its upcoming celebration, including dozens of inmates from the ADC, who were allowed to attend the event
