Information Technology Bureau

BUSINESS OFFICE

The Business Office maintains the highest level of operational and financial support for the Information Technology Bureau through the implementation and continued use of efficient processes and strict standards. This office is responsible for the continual monitoring of costs and the identification of cost-saving opportunities in addition to ensuring strict Bureau compliance with State and agency rules and regulations.  This office is built on a work environment that promotes open communication and encourages collaboration with other agency departments.

 

COMMUNICATIONS AND SYSTEM ENGINEERING SERVICES

Communications and Systems Engineering consist of six (6) teams: Systems Engineering Support, Radio Support, Reports and Property Management, Communications Support, Cable Infrastructure Support, and SQL Database Support, and Network Engineering Support.

 

Systems Engineering Support provides high level research, and design to insure the agencies technology investments adhere to the industry’s best practices, fall within the GITA defined target technology parameters.  Working within a very conservative IT budget this section is challenged with developing project plans, determining feasibility and cost of deploying target technology that is both scalable and robust to meet the Department’s growth needs and utilization demand.

 

Radio Support provides the agency with fixed and mobile radio communications services, which includes, but is not limited to, the following:  Radio Frequency Coordination; Radio System Engineering design; Radio System support and maintenance; Radio Systems installation.

 

Reporting and Property Accountability provides the agency with: Project reporting capabilities for internal and external reports; IT property inventory accountability.

 

Communications Support coordinates acquisition, billing, and record keeping of all telecommunication systems or services provided to our agency.  Reviews, coordinates, approves, or disapproves all procurement of telecommunications systems and is the primary point of contact for all telecommunications trouble tickets identifying the level of severity and coordinating the repair of service outages locally or with ADOA and the AZNet contractor.

 

Cable Infrastructure Support, in conjunction with Network Services Regional Support, is responsible for all out of scope switching fabric and cable plant installation, maintain and repair  CATV, Video, Telemedicine, security and other designated systems; Performance analysis and warranty management as required.

 

SQL Database Support focuses on the following functional areas of expertise:  design, development, operation, security, maintenance, and use of databases supporting the agency; defines the rules by which the data is accessed and stored; does not manage or administer the Network, or PC Applications, however, coordinates closely with these areas relative to network operations and applications development.

 

NETWORK SERVICES

Network Services, in a highly structured team environment, supports the Department’s Information Technology requirements through four functional areas:  Technical Support, Regional Support, Network Support and Web Support.

 

Technical and Regional Support provides two important functions, Call Center and Help Desk, at the agency’s Central Office sites and at the remote prison sites, respectively.  As Call Centers they are the first point of contact, or Level 1 support evaluating and prioritizing issues to ensure prompt attention.  As Help Desks, their function is to dispatch problems spanning multiple architectural layers and platforms, quickly and effectively.  Problems extending beyond specified time frames or requiring additional resources to resolve are promptly elevated to Level 2 support.

 

Network Support provides specialized system planning, technical specifications, implementation of upgraded and new IT solutions in support of the agency’s application and database development.  Network Support also provides system maintenance, daily network administration, virus protection, backup and recovery and functions as Level 2 support agency wide.

 

Web Support provides e-Business solutions via Web Enabled Architecture that supports the dissemination of information efficiently and cost effectively.  Web Support is responsible for Web Design, Development, Maintenance and Developer Training; Overall Website Management, Technical Supervision of internal websites at the agency’s remote locations and technical support for Internet development.

 

APPLICATIONS AND DATA MANAGEMENT SERVICES

Applications and Data Management Services support Agency system automation the development and maintenance of computer software systems.  Applications and Data Management Services is comprised of two functional units: Mainframe Applications and PC Applications.

 

Mainframe Application programmers and analysts develop and support the Department’s core business software and data that resides on the ADOA mainframe. The Unit supports and maintains the Department’s management of inmate classification, inmate movement, inmate visitation, inmate trust accounting, staff human resources, staff payroll and finance, software systems.

 

PC Application programmers and analysts endeavor to support the Agency’s Administration and staff through development and maintenance of web based business solutions that automate CORE business processes in support of the Agency’s strategic goals.
