Arizona Correctional Industries Receives AQA Award

Gregg Hillebrand, Bill Foster, Al Wesley, Bob Streeter, Charles Flanagan, Bill Branson, Judy Longmeyer and Dale Beatty celebrate receiving the Showcase in Excellence Award

Arizona Correctional Industries (ACI) is the proud recipient of the Arizona Quality Alliance's (AQA) prestigious Showcase in Excellence Award, which recognizes organizations for specific process excellence.

The award ceremony was held on December 15 at the Chaparral Suites Resort in Scottsdale.

ACI has won this award for their Customer Satisfaction System, a process which, according to AQA, is innovative and a cutting-edge business solution.

"Participating in the AQA Showcase Awards Program adds a new element of job qualification for Arizona Correctional Industries' inmate work force, " said Bill Branson, ACI's General Manager.  "It's one thing to say quality is important, but another to assign specific goals to achieving it.  Quality-oriented training produces better goods and services for our customers, while strengthening work ethics and job skills for staff and inmates."

Other Showcase in Excellence Award recipients included Banner Thunderbird Medical Center, Holsum Bakery, Inc., and Maricopa County's Office of the Legal Advocate.  The highest honor of the day, the Governor's Award, went to Sonora Quest Laboratories.

Judi Longmeyer, ACI's Quality and Training Manager, has already set her sights on the future.  "We want to continue to build on what we've achieved and begin working toward AQA's next award level, the Pioneer Award," she said after the award ceremony.  "We want to continuously improve our methods and processes in preparing our inmates to produce quality work once they are released from prison.  We are hoping what works on the inside will work on the outside."
