ASPC-Douglas to hold Health Fair
Tuesday February 28, 2006

ADC staff and inmates will have the opportunity next week to learn more about staying healthy.  The ASPC-Douglas Health Services staff will host a series of healthcare events at the Eggers Unit on March 2 and 3, 2006.

On Thursday, March 2 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Christina Hurst with the Arizona Department of Health Services will present a Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) training workshop for all ADC Staff at the complex.  According to Ms. Hurst, workshop topics will include the following: The Liver; Viral Hepatitis Alphabet; Diagnosing HCV; HCV Transmission and Prevention; HCV Symptoms/Progression; HCV Management; Medical Treatments; and HCV Co-infections.

On Friday, a Health Fair will be held.  Representatives from Cochise County will present a tobacco cessation booth and D.E.S. will discuss AHCCCS information. Also, Christina Hurst will host a Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) information booth.  Friday's events will be held from noon - 1:00 p.m. for staff and from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. for inmates.  

The remainder of the Health Fair booths will be presented by ADC Health Services staff (Nurses, Medical Providers, Dentists, and Dental Techs).  Topics covered will be:

  • Oral Care
  • Ask-a-Nurse
  • Asthma/Respiratory Issues
  • Diabetes
  • Nutrition and the Food Pyramid
  • Blood Pressure/Pulse Clinic
  • Mental Health
  • Osteoporosis, Rabdomyolosis and Exercise
  • Sun Safety
  • Proper Hand Washing
  • Audio Screening
  • Vision Screening

All booths will have visual displays and hand outs. Additionally, participants will be offered a pocket sized hand out to take from booth to booth to have their "Numbers" (BP/Pulse/Peak Flow/Audio/Vision/Height/Weight/etc.) recorded for personal reference.
