Inmate Job Fair Already Showing Results

On Wednesday, January 18, ASPC-Lewis' Bachman Unit held it's first ever "Inmate Job Fair", an event that brought together 16 civilian employers and over 250 inmates.

This reintegration event, which supports ADC's Parallel Universe philosophy, was the brain child of Captain Randy Kaufman.  "At a recent Community Reintegration Coalition meeting, I was listening to a speaker talk about conducting job fairs for inmates, and I thought 'Why couldn't we do something like this?'," Captain Kaufman said.  "The coalition is comprised of both public and private entities who are interested in getting ex-offenders back into the workforce."

Representatives attended from Grand Canyon University, Neutron Industries, Chicanos Por La Causa, Arizona Workforce Connection, Money Management International, Prison Living Magazine, HUD, Rio Salado College and Biltmore Properties.

Indeed there is already proof that the event was a success.  Deputy Warden Terry Johnson received a call from a released inmate just this week.  He told the Deputy Warden, "The job fair was outstanding.  I've gotten a job at a cement company as a direct result."  DW Johnson said that this ex-offender is now spreading the word to other potential employers, hoping to get even greater community participation.

The next Job Fair is scheduled for May 24th.

Congratulations to the employees of the Bachman Unit and the Community Reintegration Coalition for their success with this project!
